A recruiter screen doesn't test domain depth. It resolves four things:
JD 逐字写着 "strong communication and presentation skills in English and Mandarin Chinese"。 The JD says verbatim: "strong communication and presentation skills in English and Mandarin Chinese".
"这部分其实中英文都会用到——Working with the China HQ engineering team, I write the specs in Chinese, and the customer-facing documentation in English.
Q3 is where this call is won or lost.
"I've spent fifteen years in logistics and supply chain, and there's one thread through all of it: redesigning warehouse and last-mile fulfillment operations around systems and data.
I started at S.F. Express, five years, building a smart-locker last-mile network from zero to over two thousand points, handling more than ten million parcels a year — hardware, sorting algorithms, WMS, and carrier API integrations. We then replicated that model into two new markets.
After that, a year at Kowloon Motor Bus on public-transit products, then IRS Logistics, where I led an end-to-end TMS implementation that removed forty percent of manual work.
Today I'm the WMS Product Manager at FoodsUp, where I led a warehouse process redesign and a WMS mobile migration that lifted efficiency thirty-five percent across sites. I've also stood up a warehouse here in Canada from zero, in about two months.
I work natively in both English and Mandarin — I'm on calls with our China engineering team daily."
"There are two reasons this role interests me.
First, the role itself. I read the JD carefully, and what drew me most wasn't just the solution design — it's the sixth block, Knowledge Management: building the SOPs, solution templates, and playbook. That's what I've done at the end of every project. At S.F. Express, and on the WMS work here in Canada, I turned what worked into standard process so the team could repeat and scale it.
Second, the stage. I noticed you posted solutions, warehouse, and sales for Toronto on the same day — that looks like JD Logistics building its first team in Canada, a genuine zero-to-one stage. Building logistics systems, processes, and operating capability from nothing is the work I've done most of, and the work I have the most appetite for.
So between the content of the role and where the company is right now, it lines up closely with my experience."
"That's a fair question, and I'll answer it directly. I'm not looking for a bigger title — I'm looking for something to build from zero.
Canada is genuinely day-one for you: first customers, first warehouse, first SOPs, first playbook. I've done that three times — the locker network at S.F. Express from nothing to two thousand-plus points, a warehouse launch in Montréal in about two months, and a full WMS rebuild at FoodsUp. On zero-to-one work, experience isn't a premium — it's insurance. Most of the mistakes you'd make in year one, I've already made.
On the years: I read three-to-five as a budget profile. What you actually need is the version of this role that doesn't require a manager layered above it — someone who can design the solution, run the integration, face the customer, and write the SOP. That I can do."
"It isn't an escape — I want to get back closer to the core.
My work at FoodsUp has been complete: the WMS from rebuild through mobile migration, thirty-five percent efficiency across sites, and I drove it from the start. But logistics at FoodsUp is internal fulfilment supporting our own business, so the scope has a ceiling built into it.
I want to be somewhere logistics is the main business, and somewhere that's expanding. JD Logistics starting from zero in Canada satisfies both at once."
"Both are working languages for me. Mandarin is my first language — I'm in meetings and writing requirements with our China R&D team every day. English is my working language here in Canada: customer documentation and cross-functional communication all run in English. I often produce specs and meeting notes in both. The most expensive cost in cross-timezone work is translation loss, and with me that cost is zero."
"I've done the homework on the Toronto market and I have a clear range. But you're the one holding the actual band for this role — could you share that first? Then I can tell you straight away whether we line up, rather than us both guessing."
"Based on Toronto market data at this level, my target is CAD $100,000 to $110,000 base."
If pressed for justification — one item at a time, don't dump all three:
"Understood, and thank you for being straight with me. Let me be equally direct: at my experience level, $75K is a real distance from my range. That said, I'm genuinely interested in this opportunity — particularly building the Canada line from zero. Could we do it this way: let's carry on through the process, let the hiring team see what I'd bring, and revisit compensation on that basis?"
"I'm authorised to work in Canada with no restrictions and no sponsorship required. On start date, I'd need to hand over properly at my current role — roughly three to four weeks. If timing is tight on your side, that's discussable."
"I am. Two are in process — a continuous improvement role in retail supply chain that's reached second round, and a product role at a logistics tech company. But JD Logistics is the one I went looking for — I applied through Workday first, then found you through David Wang, because this role and building Canada from zero is the closest match to what I actually want to do."
"Yes. I live in Markham, so commuting into Toronto is no issue. I'd expect the build phase to need me on site constantly — you can't find the real problems in a process without standing on the floor. At the Montréal warehouse I was in the building every day."
You'll only get through 4–6. The first four are mandatory; cut from the bottom.
"I saw the posting says starting from CAD $75,000. Could I ask where the actual top of the band sits? I'd like to confirm we're in the same range — otherwise we both spend several rounds finding out we weren't, and that's a cost on your side as much as mine."
Reframes money as saving her time rather than extracting something. Skip if Q6 already covered it.
"I noticed there's also a Warehouse Manager role (JR103258) and a Sales Manager posted for Toronto in the same window. Are those yours as well? Given I've built sites from zero and built the WMS behind them, if the Warehouse Manager seat is also a fit, would it be possible to be considered for both?"
"I noticed the employing entity on this posting is JD Logistics United States Company, but the role is based in Toronto. I'd like to understand: will this position sit with a Canadian local team, or under the US / North America team? And what would the reporting line look like?
Also on employment structure — would I be a direct employee of a JD Logistics Canadian entity, or engaged through an Employer of Record? And for benefits, whose plan would medical and RRSP run under?"
Decoding her three possible answers:
Basis for the inference: the recruiter is in LA · the JD is cloned from the US Fontana template · David Wang described Crystal as covering North America · Canada is absent from the operating-country list — all four point to NA regional control.
"How many rounds are there from here, and who would I be meeting at each stage? And when is the team hoping to have this filled?"
Second use: it tells you whether the Toronto build is actually on a clock. "Decided within August" means the schedule is locked; vagueness means they're still watching.
